Effects of Poor House Planning in Windhoek

Effects of Poor House Planning in Windhoek

Windhoek is the capital city of Namibia. Currently, most of the African capital cities are upgrading to provide its residents with the right house by proper planning and making sure that the engineering standards are attained. The working of any government is seen by the housing standards it provides to the citizens.

In Namibian capital, 40% of the residents live in houses of low standards. The weak housing is as a result of the poor planning and low engineering standards which prevents the construction of long lasting urban houses in Namibia. According to the Urban Dynamics planner Martin Mendelsohn, Windhoek on the surface still looks like a city in the first world country.

Mendelsohn said that the planners are working to improve the housing standards. The regulatory framework put in place by the Urban Dynamic Planner is working so well in guiding the development of the houses. The current regulation only allows those people who can access a reasonable income or credit in participating in the property market as they are the only people who can afford to pay the high costs required. The regulation means that a good number of population is excluded from the right to own property. The regulations are what has led to the current weak housing in the land.

The present regulatory system does not give the poor a room to improve their living standard. For excellent and long-lasting housing to be initiated in the town, the fighting to improve the living standards of the poor should prioritize this will give a good number of people an opportunity of accessing the right houses of good standards.
