Namibia’s new Dune Mall opens in Walvis Bay

The Mayor of Walvis Bay, His Worship Alderman Immanuel Wilfried, Special Advisor to the Governor of the Erongo Region Ms Adelheid Kandjala and CEO of Atterbury Louis van der Watt officially opened the first regional shopping centre in the Namibian port city.

Leading South African property developer and investor Atterbury in partnership developed the R600 million mall with local developers Collins Group.

Many impressed visitors from near and far came to the opening of Dunes Mall that after three years of development projects was ready to welcome customers with over 60 stores. This is only a start, since a further 20 stores will be opening in early February 2018.

Atterbury manages Dunes Mall, the largest mall in the area and the second largest in Namibia. Everrt kleynhans, development manager for Atterbury says: “The decision to expand Atterbury’s retail footprint in Namibia came as no surprise. Thriving Walvis Bay was the logical next step for a regional shopping centre development, considering the substantial investment activity in the port city and the shortage of retail servicing the area. From past experiences across all our portfolios, we know that by creating critical mass it becomes easier for residents to shop and it creates a node that everyone identifies with.”

He added that Dunes Mall is the first large one-stop mall that offers extended trading hours and big well-known brands previously not available.

The mall is located in a very convenient spot close to the city’s airport and the tourism area of Swakopmund. The position is ideal for both visitors and residents.

Some of the stores featured in the mall are Checkers, Pick n Pay, Woolworths, Dis-Chem and House and Home. There is also a good line of famous fashion brands such as Cotton On, Foschini Group and Mr Price Group.
